One of San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital’s nurses, ShirlleyAnn Gruenke, recently received the Umbrella Award for public service, through the Smiles for Seniors Foundation, a local non-profit organization serving low-income seniors in the Inland Empire area.
According to the Smiles for Seniors Foundation, the “umbrella represents shelter from the storm. The Umbrella Award Show is a chance for us to honor the special people who are always doing something nice for others.”
ShirlleyAnn was nominated by a patient at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital, who appreciated the compassion and excellent care ShirlleyAnn provided to her which promoted her to a speedy recovery.
ShirlleyAnn “is considered by many doctors, nurses, and patients to be a real life angel,” the patient said. “I appreciated her wonderful attitude…she can be tough when the need arises; however, she is tough because you need her to be tough.”
The patient went on to say that ShirlleyAnn “truly cares for her patients. Many times elderly patients will be admitted who don’t have much time to live. She will sit by their bed and hold their hand for as long as it takes to ensure that they do not depart this earth alone.”
Congratulations to ShirlleyAnn Gruenke for being honored and recognized by her patients at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital!
