Visitors to San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital’s new Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit building were treated to a cool, air-conditioned building on Wednesday. The August 15 Construction Tour gave community members the opportunity to see the progress on the new building, and hear updates from the construction team.
According to Randy Craig, President of ProWest Constructors, the construction management firm, the new ED/ICU building is 95 percent complete, and the hospital expects to see patients April 2013, pending a successful licensing survey.
Work on the outside of the building is nearly complete, as is the inside. Cabinetry and other casework are nearing completion, and the southeast courtyard is finished.
As part of the entire project, the kitchen remodel is 12 percent complete, and will be done in five stages. This allows for San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital’s Dietary Department to continue providing food for patients.
In addition, the loading dock, materials management and office remodels are expected to go to bid as one project in January, 2013.
Clark Pangilinan, Project Manager for HDR, the architectural/engineering design firm, said that work on the future Patient Care Building is going well. The designs have been completed, and the permit is under review with the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD). Approval is expected in early 2013 with construction expected to start in the fall of 2013, and be completed in 2017.
Construction Tours of the new ED/ICU building will continue through the end of the year. Tours are scheduled on the third Wednesday of the month, at 4 p.m. Tour groups meet at Classroom C on the SGMH Campus.
The next Construction Update meeting will be held Wednesday, November 14, following the Construction Tour. The tour and meeting that month will be held on the second Wednesday, in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday.
